Bluebeard’s Castle

As a project for my costume design class, I designed for Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle. One of the themes of the opera concerns the stages of a man’s life. I decided to represent this with seasonal imagery as well as allusions to the times of day; Morning, Noon, Dusk, and Night. Plant life too, played a heavy role in my inspiration. Each one of the three wives is encased in a corset of twisting vine, which mimics the vine on Bluebeard’s coat.
